Minus <\/i><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><b>DESCRIPTION<\/b><br \/>\n<i>Asexual form <\/i>Colonies are compact, rounded, pointed, black, 80-320 \u00b5m in diameter <i>Micelio<\/i> hyaline to pale brown cells, hyphae 2-7 \u00b5m in diameter. <i>Conidiophore stem cell<\/i> are spherical to lageniform, hyaline with brown pigments and measure 4-)5-7(-8) \u00d7 (4-)5-6(-7) \u00b5m. <i>Conidiophores<\/i> <i>cylindrical<\/i> unbranched, straight or flexuous, smooth-walled, hyaline with a brown transverse septum, measuring 30-100 \u00d7 2-4 \u00b5m. <i>Conidiogenous cells <\/i>cylindrical 1\u20131.5 \u00d7 1\u20131.5 \u00b5m. <i>Conidia <\/i>grow along the sides of the conidiophores, curved, rounded at the apices, brown with a germinating hyaline band and a visible scar, (8-)9-10(-11) long in frontal view, (5-)6-7(-8) in lateral view. <i>Sterile cells <\/i>rounded, paler than the conidia.      <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"> <\/span> <i> Crop characteristics <\/i>flat colonies spreading on the medium, with aerial mycelium growing moderately.<br \/>\n<b>Sexual form <\/b>in this study has not been seen, it is described by Gutner (1927) and Ellis (1951) as <i>Pseudoguignardia scirpi <\/i>only seen in pure culture.<br \/>\n<b>NOTES<\/b><br \/>\n<i>Arthrinium minus<\/i> can be confused with <i>Arthrinium curvatum var. curvatum, <\/i> the conidia of both collections are morphologically the same with the only difference in size <i>A. minus<\/i> (8-)9-10(-11) \u00d7 (5-)6-7(-8) \u00b5m, whereas <i>A. curvatum var.<\/i> <i>curvatum<\/i> 11\u201315 \u00d7 6\u20138 \u00b5m. Ellis (1951) erigi\u00f3  <i>Artrhinium curvatum var. minus <\/i> as a variety of <i>Arthrinium curvatum <\/i>and comments that there is no doubt that <i>Artrhinium curvatum var. minus  <\/i>is very close to <i>Arthrinium curvatum<\/i> and consider that <i>Artrhinium curvatum var. minus  <\/i>is a variety with smaller spores of that species. Minter &amp; Cannon (2018) promoted this variety to Ar. minus species rank due to the difference in size of the conidia of the two varieties which do not overlap.
