DESCRIPTION
Sexual form: Stromata raised, fusiform, linear, black, confluent areas on host surface with linear openings showing ascomata, (500-)600-1500(-2000) µm × (200-)320-450(-500) µm. Ascomata globose to subglobose with flat base, blackish brown, (120-)140-180(-200) µm in diameter. Peridium 8-15 µm thick, composed of 5-5 layers of angular textured cells, outer layers dark brown to hyaline in inner layer. Ostiole simple, central, 30-60 µm in diameter with periphyseal canal. Periphyses broad, colourless. Hamathecium composed of broad septate, deliquescent hyphae 4-6 µm thick. Ascus octosporic, unitunicate, clavate, broadly cylindrical, pedicel barely visible, rounded at apex, thick-walled, without apical apparatus, (77-)80-98(-105) × (14-)15-19 (-21) µm. Ascospore 1.3 seriate, hyaline, apiospore, smooth-walled, fusiform, elliptical, reniform, straight or curved, widest at centre of longest cell (23-)26-30(-32) × (7-)9-10(-12) µm, basal cell. Asexual form not observed. Culture characteristics on MEA 2% colonies spreading flat with little aerial mycelium, whitish reverse.
